Christmas markets in the Almenland

Skilled craftsmanship and traditional customs

Almost every town in the Almenland Nature Park has its own Christmas market: there are some which have a tradition going back years and some which have only emerged in the past few years. The “large” markets are supplemented by smaller events, such as the Alpaca Advent, the Herb Farmers’ Advent or the biscuit market.

Each of the Christmas markets has its own special features. The Advent market in front of the Brandlucken Huab’n is organised by the “Huab'n Theater”; accordingly, a Christmas play is performed several times every year. The Christmas market on the Teichalm areais “a Christmas market like they had in the past”. The focus is on traditional crafts. Renditions of old melodies by wind instruments, fire baskets and the scent of fire trees provide the right atmosphere.

The "Advent'ln" in St. Kathrein am Offenegg has only been held for a few years. The Advent path, lit by hundreds of candles, runs through the whole town. Choirs and music groups accompany the event. The St. Kathrein Advent event is, however, best known for the unique, larger-than-life chocolate nativity scene made by TV confectioner Eveline Wild.

The “Moarhofhechtl Adventmarkt”, which takes place on the Schrenk family’s farm and can be combined with the exhibition of nativity scenes on the Birglhof farm, is also unique.
